Move it: shadow beasts 2

Move It! is a twice monthly series of kinetic art making nights at The Stringpullers Studio. This week try making articulated cut-out beasts for shadow plays or animation. Drop-in making session from 5-8pm. For adults and kids with an adult. Free. Part of First Thursday Open Studios at Artist Alley.

This time we’ll turn the lights off at 7:45pm and invite to the shadow stage anyone who’d like to try performing a short scene with what they made that night. Skills not required! Just an adventurous spirit!

Find us through the red doors at the back of South Hill Business Park, across from Ithaca College. 950 Danby Road, Ithaca, NY.

Linda hosts the first in a series of kinetic art making sessions as part of Third Thursday Open Studios at the new Artist Alley art colony. On Thursday, Feburary 21, drop in from 5-8pm and try your hand at making a simple cam-driven automaton (art moved by mechanics) out of cardboard and other common materials. Visit other artists working in their studios that night, including Margaret Reed and Carol LaBorie. Free. Artistic and mechanical mastery not needed. For adults, and kids accompanied by an adult.

Summer Flood at the Crankie Cabaret

Linda will debut Summer Flood, a shadow crankie performance, at the second annual Crankie Cabaret presented by LilyPad puppets at the Cherry Artspace. Cranked to the Irish ballad Plain Girl’s Lament by Ceoltori combined with the strumming of Matt Ocone, the 30 foot intricately cut Tyvek scroll merges the story of a determined girl with Linda’s own recent experience with flooding through the theme of water.

A Man's World

Linda returns to Fairfield University and Theatre Fairfield for a third semester as their adjunct puppetry faculty. She'll be designing and building a bunraku-style life-sized puppet and training puppeteers to play the part of Kiddie in Rachel Crother's A Man's World. Directed by Marti LoMonacco at the Quick Center. Performance dates TBA.

Sock Puppet Workshop

The Stringpullers bring puppet making and performance to the Connecticut Burn Camp, a summer camp free to children who've survived severe burn injuries. Sponsored by Connecticut Firefighters, run by the Bridgeport Hospital Burn Center. Supply donations of socks and sundries being gratefully collected. Email linda.wingerter@gmail.com.

A few of Linda's puppet-inspired wood paintings are part of a 12 person group show at the Greater New Haven Arts Council, and Koffee right next door. On Audubon Street in New Haven, Connecticut. Opening night festivities July 9th starting at the Arts Council from 5-7pm, the party keeps rolling till 10 at Koffee!
